about

Two Sixes, composed early in 2000, is a short slow piece which explores some of the consequences of dividing the chromatic octave into two groups of six notes and deciding that any sounding entity in the piece must use the notes of either one group or the other but never both at the same time. In the first few bars the six notes of each group are gradually added to build up a hexad, which is then held for a while before some of its notes drop out, leaving behind a simpler chord. The other main type of material is made up of sustained plain chords but there is also a short passage of solo melody near the end.
